Goals of Volleyball Technique Training
Having good, basic knowledge of volleyball technique is one of the key components enabling a player to reach their potential. When a player masters the correct fundamentals, she or he can consistently produce the most efficient, effective, and successful hitting and passing while minimizing the risk of injury. These fundamentals are applicable to all ages and levels of play.
Spring and Summer Volleyball Clinic
This clinic is specifically designed who would like to undergo basic and advance training skills in volleyball. An evaluation will be done on the first day of camp and each one will be grouped according to skill level. There will be camp counselors present to assist in the assessment and to answer questions.
The clinic will focus on the correct basic volleyball skills and is open to boys and girls at all skill levels. There will be major emphasis on serving, passing, hitting, setting and defensive/offensive transitions.
This will be a great experience for students who want to get a head start before the school sports season try outs. This will help determine and work on the position they can excel in and experience different types of drills and get into the actual game-like situation. The clinic is set up in a fun, safe and controlled environment.
Basic/ Intermediate Skills Clinic - Session 1
The Basic Skills Camp is specially designed to meet the needs of athletes entering grades 5-12. The Basic Skills Camps focus on all aspects of the game with the emphasis on fundamentals. Skill development is emphasized during hours of on-court instruction in the following areas: serving, serve receiving, forearm passing, setting, attacking, team defense, blocking, team reception, attack coverage and team transition. Off-court sessions include lectures and fun activities. Campers are evaluated and placed in a group of similar age and ability. Session 1 is not a prerequisite for Session 2. Sessions 1 and 2 are the same type of camp.
- Emphasis is on Defense. Pass! Pass! Pass! DEFENSE COMES FIRST! Generalize passing skills with emphasis on good platform and base. Lots of repetition and court movement. Footwork and platform passing will be the focus on this session. Footwork with lots of drills on passing to setter.
- Libero - is designed for athletes entering grades 9-12 and is ideal for athletes who already have identified themselves as a libero or defensive specialist and want to improve on these skills. This position-specific camp focuses upon passing and defensive techniques. These include forearm passing, overhead passing, digging, and rolling. Campers also learn a variety of systems and styles that help them with their relationships on the court.
- Serving Form and routine. What are the sequences involved in serving.
- Proper arm swing and back swings action
- Learning to serve underhand and overhand
- Setting skills with hand eye coordination, quickness and agility
- 2, 3 and 4 step approach (footwork) with proper arm swing action
- Emphasis is on Game-like situations and court movement. Generalize passing skills with emphasis on good platform and base. Lots of repetition and court movement
- Transition from offense to defensive and court movement.
- Cross court and line hitting
- Understanding rotation and substitution
- Rules, do’s and don’ts of the game
- Video analysis of arm swing and proper approach
Advanced/ Varsity skills camp– Session 2
This is for experienced players that have 1 or more years of playing volleyball as a JV, Varsity or club player. Athletes that wants to train on
Our Advanced skills Camp offers a high level of training and increased individual playing time for athletes entering grades 9-12. Refining technique and exposure to the tactical aspects of the game is the key to this intense volleyball environment. This session is ideal for the experienced volleyball player striving to be the best. We expect players who attend this session to be very serious about learning advanced volleyball systems and training. A positive attitude and good work ethic are a must in this environment.
- Hit the overpass – stationary and moving
- 2, 3, 4 step approach (footwork) with proper arm swing action
- Generalize passing skills with emphasis on good platform and base. Lots of repetition and court movement, rolls, sprawls and dive techniques
- Blocking footwork for middle and outside
- Cross court, rolls shots, and line hitting
- High intensity precision passing from a hard hit ball. All game like drills to work with consistency in defense and offense.

Setter / Hitter Clinic Session 3 -H
Hitters Clinic
This clinic specifically designed and predominantly for left-side and right side hitters. Coaches will focus on approach, timing, arm swing and shot selection. There will be further emphasis on defensive transitions, passing of serve receive as well as downball passing. Coaches will cover the following skills:
- Proper approaches
- Effective and correct arm action
- Cross court and line hitting
- Hit the overpass – stationary and moving
- Hit variety of sets – high ball, rainbow, shoot set, 33, 31, left side X
- Proper passing form – repetitions
- Proper defensive positioning – reading the opposition
- Blocking – hand position, penetration, positioning and timing
- Blocking – reading opposing attacker, set block vs. play downball
- Commit block with middle hitter on quick’s, set block for slide/step around
- Hit against blockers – tipping, half-speed and wipe-off shots
- Back row hitting from position 5 and 6
- Hit bad sets – learn new shots from difficult positions
- Swing hitting of serve receive
- Transition situations: dig tip – attack, dig front row – attack, block – attack, dig back row – attack
- Play defense in position 4, 5 and 6
- Video analysis of arm swing and proper approach with classroom feedback session
Setters Clinic Session 3-S
Setters Clinic
This is his is a specialized camp for the quarterback of the volleyball team. There will be hands on training with discussions on footwork, hand eye coordination, strategies, set selection, leadership qualities, motivation of fellow teammates and coping with pressure situations. Techniques will focus on accuracy of the set. Leadership qualities and quickness for the setters will be emphasized. Coaches will cover the following skills:
- Hand and body positioning
- Movement and footwork to ball: move – stop – set, square to four on front and back set
- Repetition, repetition, repetition!
- Jump setting
- Bad ball setting
- Variety of sets – High balls to variety of quick’s
- Ball recovery out of net
- Second ball attack – dump with left and right hand, dump when of the net
- Dumping against blocker
- Blocking – hand position, penetration, positioning and timing
- Blocking – reading opposing attacker, set block
- Transition and penetration – defense and downball situations
- Play calling off serve receive and in transition
- Running an effective offense
- Setting against the flow
- Video analysis of individual setting technique and classroom feedback session
Middle Hitter Session 4
Middle Hitter
This clinic is specifically designed for the athlete playing the middle position. The clinic will focus on approaches, timing, arm swing and shot selection. Special emphasize will be given to blocking skills, defensive transition plays and attack options of serve receive. The coaches will cover the following skills:
- Proper approaches
- Effective and correct arm action
- Hit angles – cross body, straight away, cutback
- Learn approach relationship – pass and setter
- Hit quick’s – 51′s, 31′s, 61′, step around/slide – off downball and off dig
- Hit back row from position 5, 6 and 1
- Hit the overpass – stationary and moving
- Hit against blockers
- Tipping options – one or two blockers
- Blocking – hand position, penetration, positioning and timing
- Block and cut off angles – two hands and one hand
- Blocking – efficient movement to outside blockers
- Blocking – reading opposing attacker, set block vs. play downball
- Blocking – commit block on quick, recover and block secondary attacker
- Transition footwork from position 2, 3 and 4 to run the quick
- Video analysis of arm swing and proper approach with classroom feedback session
Libero / Passing and Serving Clinic Session 5
Passing Clinic
This clinic is specifically designed for athletes playing the libero or defensive position. This clinic will focus on quickness, agility, basic platform and base position. Special emphasize on serve-received drills. This required athletes to read and react quickly prior to an offensive attack by the opponent. The coaches will cover the following skills:
- Hand and body positioning
- Movement and footwork to ball based on set, tracking the ball to setter and hitter
- Repetition, repetition, repetition!
- Tracking the hitter and setter
- Covering the blocker
- Reading and anticipation of the hitter
- Play calling off serve receive and in transition
- Passing the ball to initiate an effective offense
- Over hand passing
- Under hand and over hand serving techniques
- Different kinds of serves
- Hands on serving to targets 1, 2, 4 and 5 position
