Coaches

Every athlete needs to understand that executing basic forms in passing, setting, and hitting is the key to making a successful volleyball athlete. This requires a lot of good repetition and training.

The Clinic, designed and run by Francis Cornejo,is celebrating its 19th year in 2011. The camp serves people of all ages, mostly those playing in club and high school volleyball in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area.

Participants are separated into teams or groups, based on both age and play level to afford them one-on-one attention during drills and game sessions.

Combining instructional and hands-on training, the camp touches on proper passing, setting, hitting, and serving techniques. The sessions will require campers to participate in various game-like drills and exercises, designed for both learning and fun. The supervised constant repetition will emphasize proper form and execution. Drills and games will introduce participants to concepts and principles of defense and offense.

Multiple offensive plays will also be introduced, hi lighting team exercises that use the 6-2 and 5-1 offensive patterns. Campers/clinic attendants will participate in high-intensity drills and games, designed to teach proper form and execution of these defensive and offensive moves.

Experienced volleyball athletes are given a quicker, more complex drill. A quicker pace takes over the second phase of the camp. Emphasis will be placed on speed in the defense/offense transitions. Effective blocking, smart hitting, deliberate and accurately-placed serves will be discussed and practiced.

Currently, Francis Cornejo is the Head Coach of the Varsity Volleyball  team at Holton Arms School, in Bethesda, Maryland. His school team, Holton Panthers, recently won the A Division ISL League championship for 2008.

He  head coaches the  MVSA 16′s  travel club team  and is the Skills Training Director for the club and has 17 years coaching experience. Cap level 1&2 and IMPACT certified coach. Certified referee and member of the National Capital Area Board of Volleyball  Officials (NCABVO)
